Dodgers Offer Furcal 3-Year/$40M Deal

The Times reports that the Dodgers have offered free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal a 3-year/$40M deal. The Cubs have offered a 5-year/$50M deal, and the Braves have offered 3 years/$36M, though that was before they restructured Chipper Jones' contract so that it's more backloaded, saving the Braves up to $17M over the next three years.

Comments:
I know Cesar Izturis is hurt -- but do the Dodgers really need Furcal? I mean, is that a wise deployment of their dollars? Just wondering . . . .

It's not a stupid signing at those dollars and under the current market conditions. Furcal is durable and consistent.
