Roster Notes
Again, mostly from Rotoworld...
- The Bergen County Record reports that the Red Sox aren't liking what they're seeing on the trade market to the point that they've hired a sports psychologist, possibly to keep Manny Ramirez in the fold.
- The Dodgers are pursuing Bill Mueller or Joe Randa to play third base, according to the Times. Rotoworld says the Giants, White Sox, and Twins are also interested in Mueller.
- The New York Post reports that the Mets are near to acquiring Paul LoDuca from the Marlins. If true, this would put the kibosh on Arizona's alleged pursuit of the former Dodger, and could also have implications for Bengie Molina's free agency plans, as the list of deep-pocketed teams after him would then go down by one.
Update: The New York Post says this deal is done, with the Mets surrendering pitching prospect Gaby Hernandez and a player to be named later. (Note that the article incorrectly says LoDuca was a "driving force" in the Dodgers winning the NL West in 2003. Man, I sure don't remember it that way...)
Update 2: Also on MLB.com.
- The BTF thread on the story above has a much-less-than-credible source claiming that the Dodgers are working on moving Jeff Kent to the Mets.
- The Diamondbacks are said to be so close to moving Javier Vazquez that one deal is "only a phone call or two away", according to the Arizona Republic. The Mets and Nationals are the teams most likely to land the former Expos ace.
- The New York Post says that the Dodgers, Angels, Padres, and Orioles have interest in Braves catcher Johnny Estrada, whom the report claims will be traded before the GM meetings are over.
- Update: Supposedly, Sammy Sosa is actually talking to several teams, according to Sports Illustrated and their painfully slow-loading website. Is anyone listening?
