OT: Gorilla My Dreams: Wal-Mart Blunder Has Blacks Burned

Oops! The walmart.com website gave out a recommendation that customers interested in purchasing Planet Of The Apes might also be interested in buying films about Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Dandridge, Jack Johnson, or Tina Turner -- all prominent African-Americans. Carter Cast, president of walmart.com, apologized profusely, saying "There was nobody here who maliciously put together that combination." "We were horrified to discover that some hurtful and offensive combinations are being mapped together. ... We are deeply sorry that this happened."

Comments:
Why is this a big deal? The Planet of the Apes series (especially the movies after the second one) were sort of commentraies on blacks and civil rights. To me, that makes this recommendation pretty damn astute.

That's an interesting point.

... another one was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ... i guess you could say the oompa loompas were minorities ...

the oompa loompas were originally African pygmies, Dahl changed them in later editions of the book
