Roster Notes
- Luke Hochevar, the Dodgers' top pick in last year's draft, isn't any closer to being signed. Ned Colletti says the money saved by not signing him will be needed because the Dodgers have three first-round picks this year.
- Yhency Brazoban will not appear in the WBC.
- The Dodgers have signed all players on the 40-man roster except for D.J. Houlton and Greg Miller. Kim Ng predicts both will be signed before March 1.
- Here's another piece on Tim Salmon, this time from the Press-Enterprise.
Caught between a rock and a youth movement, Salmon is trying to win a job like a rookie would. But at the age of 37 he is attempting to squeeze some at-bats out of a designated hitter's spot.
But will he do it? Much less, will he do it in an Angels uniform?
"Quite honestly, if you pressed me and make me think, at this stage, that's not part of the equation," Salmon said. "My biggest competition is myself, that's the biggest hurdle. I think the skills will speak for themselves. I'll be playing somewhere."
...
"People say 'I hope it all works out,' " Salmon said. "It's all worked out. If I can play, great. If not, I close a chapter on a great career. I get to spend time with my kids. I'm not like some of these kids fighting for a job. I've had a great career. At this stage I will try and make it last another year and be part of something special and if not, I've already been part of something special."
