Pickoff Moves, Insomnia Edition
The bed here is like a sheet of plywood, and neither of us can sleep. Blecch.
That Singles-Hitting Salmon
Earlier in the offseason, I seem to remember Scioscia or somebody else saying that if the Angels thought they could get 20-30 home runs out of Salmon, it would make sense for him to make the team. I haven't been able to get a cite for that on ProQuest yet, but so far, Tim's a singles-hitting machine, batting .500 (8-16). I'm preparing myself for a disappointment.A Sele-cious Crumb
Jon points us at this dodgers.com article (and a similar one in the Times) showcasing Aaron Sele's string of blank frames, including four in yesterday's ST game. Good for him and all, and yes, very Scott Erickson-ly meretricious. For a brief time in June last year, Sele had the best ERA on the Mariners' staff on the heels of a remarkable performance in May in which he corrected a number of flaws, but quickly came tumbling to earth, finishing the season with a 5.66 ERA. It's hard to see how this ends happily for the Dodgers.D-Mac Re-Injured, Other House Of Pain Notes
- Dallas McPherson has strained a muscle, a "three to four day setback".
- Kevin Gregg has an option left. Yup, it's time for Salt Lake.
- John Lackey will start today.
- Robb Quinlan still has a swollen leg from fouling a ball off his shin.
- Nick Gorneault will miss a couple days thanks to a left wrist bruise.
- Olmedo Saenz has returned to Dodgers camp from the WBC.
Comments:
Whoa. Only the geekiest of Star Wars geeks - like myself - will get that Sele reference. Is there a German word for simultaneously feeling proud and ashamed?
Anon 1 -- in which case, you have company! I always loved that name.
Anon 2 -- yes, that's what the newspapers are reporting. We'll be watching Cubs at Brewers; never been to Milwaukee's ST park, so it should be fun.

Glad you made it! i always have trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar bed first night on a trip.
it was a sunny but cool day here. i'm glad to have catched USA-Japan on ESPN2 and Angels-ChiSox on MLB.TV from the comfort of my living room. Looking forward to your report from Maryvale.

Sele has done that for years... Starts out decent and degrades as the weather warms up. Very useful in fantasy leagues to pick up some quick stats, then trade him by June...
Two things I noticed:
1) In the linescore of yesterday's games, in my local paper they listed the two Weavers in the split squad games. One as just "Weaver", and the other as "Jeff Weaver". Strange!
2) My DirecTV description of tonight's WBC game between the U.S. and Korea says "From Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif". How stupid is that? That's like saying "from Dodger Stadium of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif".... Making your bed, lyin' in it.
