A Strained Shoulder, Strained Credibility
Cubs starter Mark Prior merely has a strained posterior shoulder rather than anything serious -- but this is according to his trainer, and not Dr. Yokum, who, it might be noted, hasn't read his MRIs yet. If Prior never pitches again, it'll be Dusty's head on the chopping block.
Update: Phil Rogers also blames Dusty:
For the moment, Baker probably should be happy that his boss, general manager Jim Hendry, is taking a turn in the barrel for saying Prior's shoulder was fine earlier in the spring. The question about whether this is a new ouchie, which Hendry says Prior suffered while playing catch Tuesday morning, deflects attention from the bigger issue: How much culpability do Baker, pitching coach Larry Rothschild and Cubs management have in the recurring pitching injuries that have crippled a team built to contend? You would have to say, quite a lot. [...] It's the heavy pitch loads [Prior] and Wood have carried when they have been at the top of their games [that caused their respective injury problems]. Yet for many of the people who care the most about the Cubs, the ivy addicts in need of a 12-step program, it would be the height of hypocrisy to use this smoking gun as evidence it's time for a change.
