Cubs Re-Sign Hendry For Two Years

My question is, why? After giving Dusty Baker miles of rope with which to hang himself -- Neifi Perez, anyone? -- he gets not only a pass but an extension having achieved two winning seasons, and a single playoff appearance. Doesn't make sense, but I'm not a corporate owner of a club whose park fills up in good conditions and bad.

Speaking of the Cubs, here's an interesting Bleed Cubbie Blue diary analyzing why the Cubs don't win more often. One reason -- something I've thought of myself on many occaisions -- is that the Cubs have to contend with some pretty awful wind, and they're a team engineered to win by the longball.

Comments:
Correction: Dusty (and Hendry) have had two winning seasons, 2003 & 2004. 2005 was Dusty's only losing season in Chicago. Henrdry took over in July of 2002, so I don't count that season's record against him. So with two winning seasons and one losing one, and considering the Cubs' history, it's not hard to see why he's been extended.

Also, though Hendry has gotten mixed reviews for the past two offseasons, in neither case were there excesses of the needed personel. He also brought us Aramis Rameriz and Derrick Lee, got rid of Sosa (whose contract was an albatross) and has turned middle level propects into usable players several times.

So, that's probably why. I wish they'd have waited a couple or three more months, but there is something to be said for consistancy at the top of an organization if their record is decent.
