Derrek Lee Hits DL With Broken Hand

The Cubs disabled first baseman Derrek Lee as a result of his collision with Rafael Furcal in yesterday's game, which broke his hand. He will wear a cast for six weeks, and could be sidelined up to three months. There's a certain irony in the Cubs' best offensive player being taken out by the shortstop they were vigorously courting in the offseason. Reaction at BCB and Cub Reporter.

Update 4/21: ... and at Cub Town, where Derek Smart deconstructs the injury after conceding that Lee's injury was as bad as it looked (to him, I didn't think the collision was that bad); here's his initial spin on the fateful game. Ironically enough, it was the same day last year that Nomar Garciaparra went down. Are the Cubs cursed? Well...
