K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-Kelvim! Angels 8, Twins 2

Yow! What a fine performance by Kelvim Escobar, fanning ten. The Angels won on an Adam Kennedy double, but most improbably padded padded their lead on a Chone Figgins two-run homer. In combination with an RBI single in the ninth — the penultimate run driven in — Figgins tallied three RBIs on the day, and puts him in a five-way tie for second-most home runs on the team, at two.

It's fair to say that with a pitcher like Carlos Silva, who is a strike-thrower, the Angels had a more than decent shot at doing well simply because they're going to take their hacks. The only 0-fer in the lineup was Vlad; even Casey K. (1-4) and Jeff Mathis (1-3 with a walk and an RBI double) got their licks in.

I confess to being surprised that the Angels left Scot Shields in to pitch more than one inning, especially after they had put the game out of reach by the end of their half of the ninth. Why not use Esteban Yan or Hector Carrasco? Eh, whatever, a win's a win, and it's good, after so many games with the offense struggling, to see them hitting again.
