Minor League Scorebook

News

I missed one item earlier, and that was that Rafael Rodriguez was named Cal League player of the week last week.

Scores

2006-04-21: Tucson 7, Salt Lake 6 #
Aybar, E: 1-5, 2 RBI
Willits, R: 1-5, 1 K
Kendrick, H: 2-4, 1 2B
Gorneault: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Napoli, M: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Morales: 1-4, 1 K
Murphy: 2-4, 1 K
Saunders: 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 5.24 ERA
Jones: (BS, 2)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 7.71 ERA
Spending tonight watching Jeff Mathis so completely lost at the plate, you hear about catchers hitting home runs and it seems to be from some foreign land. Mike Napoli got one out, though he still has more than three times as many strikeouts (14) as walks (4). Nick Gorneault also powered one out in a pretty even contest; Tucson salvaged a win in the four-game series. The Bees immediately head to Portland for a 7:05 game in Portland, the opener of a four-game series.
2006-04-21: Wichita 10, Arkansas 11 #
Peel, A: 5-6, 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wood: 3-5, 2 RBI, 2 K
Brown: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Eylward: 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Porter: 0-3, 2 BB
Rodland: 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Smith, J: 1.0 IP, 1 ER, 7.50 ERA
Edwards: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 2.08 ERA
Starter Jesse Smith got out of the first inning and that was it after giving up six runs, only one of which was earned. No homers in this surprisingly high-scoring game, won on an Aaron Peel RBI single in the 10th. The Travs had 19 hits in the game, the Wranglers 13.
2006-04-21: Modesto 0, Rancho Cucamonga 11 #
Leblanc: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Sandoval, F: 2-5, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Collins: 1-5, 3 K
Fuller: 2-5, 2 RBI
Remole: 4-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Toussaint: 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 K
Duff: 1-2, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Rodriguez, F: (W, 2-0), 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.71 ERA
Gonzalez: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.70 ERA
Rancho scored seven times in the first and three more in the second in this out-of-control offensive game, while three-hitting Rockies affiliate Modesto Nuts. Rancho sent 11 men to the plate in the first; Clifton Remole's 3 RBIs and 4-5 night with a homer paced the team.
2006-04-21: Cedar Rapids 12, Southwest Michigan 6 #
Statia: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Reilly: 2-4, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Renz: 2-5, 2 RBI, 2 K
Wipke: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI
Trumbo: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Madrigal: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Mosebach: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1.84 ERA
Mattison: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.04 ERA
I was excited to learn of Trumbo's multihit game, his first of the year. This being the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays (no kidding — who let that happen?), it was a pretty lopsided win, albeit it was less lopsided than it looked if you just counted hits (14 for Cedar Rapids vs. 12 for Southwest Michigan).

Garcia: 2-4, 1 BB
Eckert: 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 7.59 ERA
The Las Vegans won this game on Nick Alvarez' pinch-hit double. Alvarez was substituting for Nomar, who went 2-5. Great game for Willy Aybar and Delwyn Young.

Hey, check this out: a quadfecta as all the Dodgers affiliates win.

2006-04-21: Ogden did not play

Comments:
Ha, ha. Funny one, Rob. There isn't really a team called the Modesto Nuts, is there?

Seriously.
