2006-04-16: Portland 7, Salt Lake 4 #
Aybar, E: 1-4, 1 BB
Willits, R: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Kendrick, H: 2-5, 1 2B
McPherson: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Gorneault: 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K
Murphy: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Saunders: (L, 1-1), 4.2 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 6 BB, 1 HR, 6.46 ERA
Gwyn: 2.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 6.75 ERA
Revenge is a dish best served served cold, or something like that. McPherson once again played at first base, collecting a sac fly and a pair of strikeouts, but no errors. Former Mariners 3B prospect Justin Leone (remember Lookout Landing's progenitor, Leone For Third?) drove in three on a first-inning home run that went part way to knocking out Joe Saunders after only four and two thirds innings; Saunders is going to have to pitch a lot better than this if he wants to get a callup to the big club. Jason Bulger pitched a scoreless inning and a third; he has yet to allow a run to score in 5.2 IP so far this season.

Update: I missed this Times story about Dallas McPherson:
"You have to prove yourself every day wherever you are," Angel Manager Mike Scioscia said. "Right now he's having a rough go of it. Him going down … I don't think that got into his head mentally. He has a big swing, he's a power hitter, and right now he's in one of those spells power hitters go through. But he can turn it around in a hurry."
2006-04-16: Tulsa 7, Arkansas 6 #
Wood: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Brown: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Eylward: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 0-4, 1 K
Porter: 2-3, 2 2B, 1 BB
Smith, J: (L, 0-1), 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 7.36 ERA
Thus proving Brandon Wood can't do it all by himself. It's not like they didn't make Tulsa sweat on this one, though: the Drillers went through five pitchers to get to the end of this game, including former Dodger prospect Steve Colyer, who got the final out with the tying run at second. Former Dirtbag Troy Tulowitzki went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and a strikeout.

Update: Though the Travs took a loss, it's still pretty amazing they got this close at all, considering they arrived home from their road trip at 7:00 AM.

Fuller: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Collins: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Toussaint: 0-4, 3 K
Johnson: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Sutton: 2-4
Gelinas: (L, 0-2), 5.0 IP, 7 ER, 11 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 3 HR, 7.59 ERA
Jepsen: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA
I seem to remember at one point that Joe Torres was considered a prospect at one time, and in the back of my head, I recall that he lost time due to Tommy John surgery in 2004. He had a terrible 2005, but he appears to be doing much better this year. Michael Collins, my favorite Aussie (and the only one I know of who's still playing for the Angels), had a good night, too.

Danny Muegge lost this one mostly by himself, surrendering a pair of dingers, one with a man on base via an error.

Pfeiffer: 2.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 8.53 ERA
No, Juan Rivera's homer wasn't a grand slam; his RBIs came on a sac fly and a three-run shot. He needed the boost: he was only hitting .105 going into today's game.
