Shell: 3.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 6.00 ERA
Justin Leone hit a three-run homer and Walter Young hit a pair of dingers that downed the Bees. Another three-at-bats, three-strikeouts night for McPherson, who got an RBI on a sac fly. Kendry Morales made a pinch hitting appearance due to Mike Napoli getting the start at first. Dustin Moseley came back to earth after a strong start that had him with a low 1.59 ERA after 17.0 IP.
2006-04-23: Wichita 5, Arkansas 6 #
Wood: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Eylward: 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Wilson: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Gates: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Aspito: 2-3, 1 RBI
Holcomb: 6.1 IP, 3 ER, 3.72 ERA
Bittner: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.00 ERA
A wild one in which five Travs got plunked, including Jason Aspito in the bottom of the ninth. Aspito's came with the bases loaded and the game tied, meaning the Travs automatically won.
2006-04-23: Modesto 5, Rancho Cucamonga 6 #
Leblanc: 2-6, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K
Sandoval, F: 2-6, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 K
Rodriguez, S: 2-7, 2 K
Collins: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Lopez: 1-5, 2 RBI, 1 K
Toussaint: 1-4, 2 BB, 1 K
Green: 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 9 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.78 ERA
Jepsen: 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1.42 ERA
Gonzalez: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.38 ERA
Both teams had players with x-7 nights in this 13-inning extravaganza, Sean Rodriguez (2-7) for the Quakes and leadoff man Corey Wimberley (3-7) for the Nuts. Michael Collins got aboard on a hit-by-pitch; a sac fly and an RBI single from Baltazar Lopez won the game. Overshadowed by the duration of the game was a good game by Nick Green, who allowed only two earned runs over seven innings, but getting a scant three strikeouts.
2006-04-23: Cedar Rapids 6, Southwest Michigan 1 #
Statia: 1-4, 1 BB
Renz: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Martinez: 0-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Trumbo: 0-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Leahy: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Madrigal: 1-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Adenhart: (W, 3-0), 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1.46 ERA
Aldridge: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 5.00 ERA
Mark Trumbo is slumping badly, hitting .167; it's bad when the Mendoza line would represent a step up. We are here, though, to talk about Warner Madrigal and his three RBIs, as well as Nick Adenhart's latest masterpiece, a six-inning, five-strikeout, five hit (oops) game.
2006-04-23: AZL Angels did not play
2006-04-23: Orem did not play
2006-04-23: Sacramento 1, Las Vegas 4 #
Aybar: 0-3, 1 BB
Valdez: 1-2, 2 BB
Ethier: 1-2, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Guzman, J: 1-4, 1 RBI
Young, D: 1-4, 1 RBI
Martin, R: 0-3, 1 BB
Weber, J: 2-4
Duncan: 0-2, 2 BB
Houlton: 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 8 K, 2 BB, 2.66 ERA
Beimel: (W, 3-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.46 ERA
Broxton: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
It's games like this that give D.J. Houlton hope of returning to the major leagues; with Seo marginal to stay in the rotation, you have to think he's at least got a shot at coming back up. Gotta add Ethier to the watch list, too.
2006-04-23: Birmingham 5, Jacksonville 6 #
Abreu: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Sprout: 0-2, 2 BB
Kemp: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
LaRoche: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Brazell: 3-5
Zapp: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Raglani: 1-3, 1 BB
Miller: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
All systems go for the offense, and Greg Miller looked sharp, too. Heath Totten gave up five runs, all earned, but did not get the decision, as the game was won aon A.J. Zapp's two-run dinger in the bottom of the ninth.
2006-04-23: Vero Beach 5, Palm Beach 6 #
Dewitt: 3-4, 1 BB
Paul, X: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Borders: 3-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Denker, T: 1-5, 1 K
Hoffmann: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Malone: 4.2 IP, 0 ER, 6 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 2.87 ERA
Wilson: (BS, 1)(L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 2.45 ERA
Despite the multitude (3) of home runs, the game was decided on smallball, with Matt Shepherd singling, a sac bunt to second, and a Juan Lucena single scoring Shepherd.
2006-04-23: Columbus 14, Asheville 10 #
Godwin: 3-6, 1 RBI
Soto: 2-6, 1 RBI
Pedroza: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Locke: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Harper: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
De Jesus: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Leach: 2.1 IP, 7 ER, 2 HR, 4.91 ERA
Castillo: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 4.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 4.72 ERA
Sergio Pedroza's grand slam won this game, but a ton of scoring on both sides. Not much to like about the pitching anywhere.
2006-04-23: GCL Dodgers did not play
2006-04-23: Ogden did not play

Comments:
It's looking like Adenhart should move up the ladder a bit, to the high-A Quakes at least.

Wasn't Trumbo a pitcher in H.S. that the Angels drafted as a position player? Maybe he should try taking the mound again.

Yes, Trumbo was a pitcher in high school. In fact, he had planned to go to USC to pitch before the Angels drafted him.

It's still early. But yeah, I think his bat experiment isn't looking so hot.
