Omen: Orioles 4, Angels 2

This is completely unscientific, but:

Year   vs. BAL      Season Result
====================================
2005    4-2      Won Division, ALDS
2004    6-3      Won Division
2003    1-8      Placed third, 77-85
2002    7-2      Won World Series

So you see where this is going. A 1-3 start against the O's is therefore a rather bad omen for the season, especially against a team that would actively trade for a piece of junk like Corey Patterson after they obligingly took out the Cubs' other trash in the guise of a clearly finished Sammy Sosa. Teams that make those kinds of decisions don't win regularly, and so far, the voting in the chattering classes is solidly in favor of a third or fourth place finish for the O's. Again. So losing to the O's is like... well, I'm not sure what, but I do recall last year a certain other well-regarded team did manage to get swept in three games by their inferiors. That doesn't make this any easier to take, though. I told you we'd be watching through our fingers.

Before I go, allow me to introduce you to Dave Studeman's Win Probability stuff. Here's the graph for today's game, culled from this link:

Fun stuff.

Recap

Comments:
I somehow doubt that having Izturis as DH is going to scare any team. Just sums us up at the moment when the power spot in the line-up is taken up by a skinny lad like Maicer

A troubling start for the Angels. At least the A's haven't taken off yet. How's Morales doing in AAA?
