OT: Take My Picture, Rob McMillin: Cooper's Hawk

I was in a parking lot at Huntington Central Park today when I heard a piercing shriek in the eucalyptus trees above me. It happened I had my long lens with me and nabbed a pretty decent shot of this Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) in the branches above. Just a gorgeous big guy, he was nice enough to let me change lenses. No doubt but that he was there to feast on the numerous ground squirrels that live in the meadow just off Goldenwest.

Comments:
Great pic. I grew up on the other side of Goldenwest and the other side of Slater from there. My Mom walks her dog through that park every day and reports on the owls that nest near the library.

Ask your mom where specifically. I'd love to get some shots in. I've only seen one owl around where we are.

I will, but last I saw (and heard) they are in the trees between trail and the elevated west wall of the library. Sending you a google map photo.
