Roster Notes
- Former Dodger prospect Koyie Hill was claimed by the Yankees off waivers from the Diamondbacks. Hill was part of the Steve Finley trade, and formerly a highly-thought-of prospect.
- The Dodgers released Henri Stanley, the return for the Dave Roberts trade. The complete list:
Released C Jeff Parrish, LHP Chad Bailey, RHPs Stephen Nelson, Alvin Hayes, Matt Meadows, Aaron Klusman and Richard Bartlett and OF Henri Stanley. Traded RHP Jarod Plummer to Royals for SS Wilson Valdez.
- For the Angels:
Released OFs Blake Balkcom, Richard Giannotti and Jason Sugden, 2B William Boyer, RHPs Aaron MacKenzie, Doug Johnson, Casey Mutter, Mark O'Sullivan, Travis Stanton and Mike Ziegler, C Corey Myers, 1B Colby Overstreet and LHP Anthony Whittington. Acquired OF Dwaine Bacon from Cubs for a player to be named. Acquired RHP Marcus Gwyn from Athletics for cash.
I wonder if O'Sullivan is any relation to the draftee who refused to sign, Sean? - Jim Callis chat:
Joe (Syracuse): Jim Is James Loney all of a sudden a candidate for NL ROY? Will he stay on the roster once Mr. Hamm returns?
Wake me when Martin has played above AA...
Jim: Anyone who plays regularly is going to be a candidate by default. I like Loney, but this is more of a temporary move (though Nomar probably will get hurt again, won't he?) If he stays up all year, I don't think Loney would produce as much as a Jeremy Hermida or Prince Fielder, though.Derek (CA): Settle a bet, please! Long term catching prospects in Southern California - who would you rather have -Mathis of the Angels or Martin of the Dodgers?
Jim: I like the either/or questions. Always good for lightning-round time. Give me Russell Martin.Carlos (Newport Beach, Ca): Kendry Morales or Eric Duncan?
And how about this for high praise?Jim: Morales.
Carlos (Newport Beach, Ca): Conor Jackson or Casey Kotchman?
Jim: Jackson, just slightly.
Tim (Orange, Ca): Jered Weaver, E. Santana, or N. Adenhart in 2-3 years?
Jim: Just to go out on a limb, Adenhart.
Joseph (Bozeman, MT): Hunter Pence or Blake DeWitt?
Jim: DeWitt.
Dave (LA,CA): Jered Weaver or Chuck Tiffany?
Jim: Weaver.
I seem to recall Rob with a skeptical quip about the timing of Gagne's suspension. I must say that I thought he was reading tea leaves that weren't there.
I stand corrected. Looks like Rob was onto something there.
