Jered Weaver Called Up

The Angels have called up Jered Weaver. The Register says Esteban Yan will likely be released to make room, and Weaver will start Saturday night, with Ervin Santana making Kevin Gregg's scheduled start tonight; Gregg will move to the bullpen.

Update: It's official: Yan has been DFA'd.

Update 2: Can it possibly be a good thing that he has Jarrod Washburn's old number, 56?

Update 3: Rich Lederer has a post up about Weaver's YTD performance.

Comments:
Thank goodness on both counts (Weaver, Yan).

AND Kotchman

We have *no* idea when Kotchman is even coming back from the DL. The Angels haven't even begun projecting a rehab stint yet, and Casey isn't participating in any baseball-related activities at the moment...

what are they going to put on the back of his jersey?

56 comes to mind, but you're expecting a name.

How about, "Weaver, Little"?

T.Y. Weaver (The Younger Weaver).

Weaver, Jer. seems most likely; what did he have in spring training?

YES!
The only thing that's bad is that saturday's game will be so late, I won't be able to watch it live. :(

Why the hate for Washburn? He was one of the better starters in Angels history. And I find it amusing that they are both Jered W.'s (although, the first names are spelled differently).
