2006-05-13: Salt Lake 8, Iowa 2 #
Aybar, E: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Willits, R: 1-5, 1 RBI
Gorneault: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 K

Saunders: (W, 5-1), 8.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 3.72 ERA
While the Angels helplessly flail away at home against a Mariners staff that's making them look like Little Leaguers, the Bees were busy crushing the ball against Iowa Cubs starter Raul Valdes, who surrendered three home runs, one each to Kendry Morales, Erick Aybar, and Jeff Mathis.

Update: The victory was Saunders' fourth straight.

2006-05-13: Arkansas 1, Tulsa 3 #
Wood: 1-2, 1 RBI
Wilson: 2-3
Smith, J: (L, 3-2), 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.86 ERA
The Travs lost the first half of this double-header, with Jesse Smith pitching the complete game and giving up only one earned run; the two unearned runs came on a Matt Brown fielding error. An abbreviated, seven-inning game because of the doubleheader.
2006-05-13: Arkansas 8, Tulsa 5 #

Edwards: (W, 3-0) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.60 ERA
The hitting the Travs didn't get in the first game showed up here; too bad the starting pitching didn't. Michael Simard got chased in the fourth.

Mendoza: (L, 1-4), 5.2 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 4.56 ERA
Dear Mark Trumbo: time to go back to pitching. Seriously. A pretty bad outing by Tommy Mendoza to complete the picture.

2006-05-13: Jacksonville 6, Mobile 5 #
Abreu: 1-6, 1 K
Hu: 3-5
Kemp: 3-3, 1 2B, 2 BB

Ruggiano, J: 0-4, 2 BB, 2 K

Nall: 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 6.30 ERA
Miller: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 0.82 ERA

Alexander: (W, 3-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 0.55 ERA
Jacksonville snuffed an 11th inning Mobile rally; Fernando Valenzuela, Jr. led off the inning for the Bay Bears, but struck out swinging. Luis Cruz provided all the offense in that inning, as Jackonville used up four pitchers to get through all eleven. All three Suns relievers used in this game — including Greg Miller, who has only two earned runs over 22 IP this season — have ERAs well under 1.00.

Greg Miller has only two earned runs over 22 IP; Craig Brazell hit a two-run double to win it in the top of the 11th.

2006-05-13: Lakeland 1, Vero Beach 3 #
Paul, X: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Hoffmann: 1-3
Dewitt: 0-4, 1 K
Todd: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Denker, T: 0-4
Bastardo: (W, 1-0), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Akin: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 1.85 ERA
My favoritest-named player in either system, Alberto Bastardo, had a teriffic night, and still has yet to give up an earned run. It was his first start for Vero this year.
2006-05-13: Savannah 8, Columbus 9 #
De Jesus: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 2 K
Pedroza: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Locke: 1-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 K
Apodaca: 2-3, 2 2B, 5 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
McDonald: 5.0 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 9 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 4.78 ERA
Sanfler: (W, 1-4) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 7.71 ERA
Down 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth, the Catfish staged a three-run rally that started when Sergio Pedroza struck out on a wild pitch, safely getting him to first. A fielding error by 2B Alex Nunez on Russell Mitchell's sac bunt attempt and an Andrew Locke walk loaded the bases. Juan Apodaca then hit a bases-clearing double to win the game. A wild one that required the services of nine pitchers between the two sides, nine hits apiece, and two errors.
