OT: Black-Headed Grosbeak

A black-headed grosbeak (Pheucticus melanocephalus). And here I was complaining earlier in the week that we didn't have any colorful birds at home. Just so, the Angels lead the Mariners 5-1 after what seems like weeks of low-scoring games.

Comments:
I don't know my birds at all. But the other morning, I saw a couple of rather colorful ones fluttering about the trees in my front yard. They were tiny things...not much bigger than a hummingbird...and they had yellow bellies. I can't recall seeing them before, and I don't know what they were. But they were nice to look at.

Probably goldfinches. This is about the time of year they disappear; mating season is just over. I got a really good shot of one here, if you care to compare them.

That might be it. They were fluttering about my white birch trees. I'll try to keep my eyes open for them, and snap a picture if I can.
