The Yankees Recycle Ex-Dodgers

First it was Bubba Crosby and Scott Proctor for Robin Ventura. Then it was Kevin Brown for Jeff Weaver (who gave the Dodgers one good and one not-so-good year) and Yhency Brazoban. Then, Tanyon Sturtze for Brian Myrow.

The latest is that Hideki Matsui has gone on the DL for essentially the rest of the season, and Gary Sheffield will be out for longer than anticipated with wrist problems. As well, pitchers Kyle Farnsworth, Shawn Chacon, Carl Pavano, and Tanyon Sturtze have hit the DL, and so the Yankees have called up Scott Erickson, and are on the verge of signing Jason Romano, guys who couldn't help the Dodgers in 2005 and 2003 respectively. (That's not to mention their signing of the equally-if-not-more-fragile Erubiel Durazo to a minor league deal.) So grim have things lately been in the Bronx that they're dipping into their farm and hauling out previously unknowns like Colter Bean. The Yankees may have infinite amounts of money, but there isn't infinite talent to throw it at.

And thanks to Jon for the nod. (Update: ... and the correction. Romano has yet to be signed.)

Update 2: It's official.
