Disaster: Mariners 12, Angels 6

I was at Sea World and incommunicado for this game, and thank God. It's a bad time for the Angels' pitching to suddenly take a vacation, but here we are. I mean — Jebus, Napoli goes yard twice and the Angels can't take advantage?

I highly recommend — with some caveats for a defective memory, which I attempted to correct in-thread — BigKahunaMan's rant in the wake of this game. Mike Napoli is a goddamn shot in the arm for this pathetic OBP-deprived club, and while I understand the "runs like a catcher" thing prevents him from realistically filling the 2-4 holes, doesn't it make sense to at least try him in the five hole? This team's too dependent on batting average for their currently slumping lineup to work well, and the whole friggin' house of cards falls apart when the pitching goes down. 2005 was a success because the team had ironclad pitching; the offense was sketchy all year long, a fact that got amplified in the postseason when the White Sox all-too-easily threw sand in the gears.

Doesn't stop GA and Vlad from inhabiting those spots nightly. Keep in mind that Napoli had 12 SBs last season at Arkansas, and his one stolen base this season is one more than Anderson has.

I think the "runs like a catcher" song-and-dance is just another self-imposed roadblock to prevent us from grabbing the brass ring.

So, how's Shamu these days?
