How To Roast A Mesa: Angels 5, Rockies 4

The Angels were well on their way to yet another pathetic show of indifference at the plate, tapping weakly to second or third or short, or dunking polite little skyballs straight at outfielders. All the while, John Lackey posted yet another quality start while watching his chances for a win go straight down the tubes. (It wasn't perfect; that pitch to Todd Helton was thigh high and right over the plate.)

And then Jason Jennings left.

Jose Mesa, thank you for those nicely placed balls that the Angels came out and smacked around. Mike Napoli, the unheralded anti-Angel for his unpredicted plate discipline and power, came through yet again, a two-run double that the Angels wouldn't relinquish — though it took Juan Rivera's RBI single to provide HR-Rod enough insurance to bring the game home. Hallelujah.
