Minor League Scorebook

2006-06-11: Salt Lake 6, Tucson 7 #
Aybar: 3-5, 1 2B
Willits, R: 0-3, 2 BB
Erstad: 1-5, 3 RBI
Kendrick, H: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 K
Gorneault: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Mathis, J: 0-3, 2 BB, 1 K
Eylward: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Budde: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Gwyn: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 5.28 ERA
Defeat snatched from the jaws of ... well, something, as Marcus Gwyn walked in the game-losing run in the bottom of the ninth. Good news to be drawn from the game included Howie Kendrick's continued .407 average despite only going 1-4 in today's game; he has a nine-game hitting streak going, during which only his last two games did he have anything less than two hits. Darin Erstad finally got a hit and drove in three.

Bartolo Colón may start this weekend against the Padres if his Monday rehab start with the Bees goes well, but nobody on the Angels staff dismisses the possibility of additional rehab starts if his velocity is still off.

2006-06-11: Arkansas 1, Springfield 11 #
Wood: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Brown: 3-4, 2 2B
Rodriguez, R: (L, 2-5), 5.2 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 3 HR, 8.53 ERA
Terry Evans homered twice against Rafael Rodriguez, who gave up three total in this humiliating game; Rodriguez gave up nine runs, only five earned. Brandon Wood's solo homer was the only offense the Travs could muster.
2006-06-11: Rancho Cucamonga 4, San Jose 0 #
Leblanc: 3-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 K
Toussaint: 1-3
Sutton: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Arredondo: (W, 4-4), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 3 BB, 1.99 ERA
Torres: 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4.38 ERA
Another brilliant game from Jose Arredondo, coupled with some timely hitting, led to a three-hit shutout of San Jose. Kevin Lynch and Joe Torres pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
2006-06-11: Fort Wayne 7, Cedar Rapids 6 #
Coon: 1-4, 3 BB, 1 K
Morris: 2-6, 3 RBI, 1 K
Statia: 1-5, 1 BB, 1 K
Trumbo: 1-7, 1 RBI
Martinez: 2-7, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
Wipke: 3-7, 3 K
Infante: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 BB
Mosebach: 4.0 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 3.14 ERA
Mattison: 4.0 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 4.78 ERA
Didjurgis: (L, 0-4) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.34 ERA
Cedar Rapids tied this one up in a three-run eighth that included a Brett Martinez homer, but the Kernels may have wondered why they bothered. Fort Wayne won the game on Brandon Gottier's solo homer in the 15th.
2006-06-11: AZL Angels did not play
2006-06-11: Orem did not play
2006-06-11: Tacoma 8, Las Vegas 1 #
Duncan: 2-5
Valdez: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Young, D: 1-3, 1 BB
Loney: 2-4
Houlton: (L, 3-6), 5.0 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 5 BB, 2 HR, 5.78 ERA
Reid: 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 6.69 ERA
And to think, Houlton was so good last time.
2006-06-11: Huntsville 0, Jacksonville 7 #
Hu: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Greenberg: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
LaRoche: 4-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Rohan: 2-4
Lundberg: (W, 7-1), 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 2.40 ERA
That would be twelve straight wins for the Suns, who apparently haven't been informed they've already clinched their division. Andy LaRoche is finally starting to hit well (.409 with five homers and 20 RBIs in his last 22 games), and Spike Lundberg gave the Suns another strong performance.

Update: Ex-Cub Adam Greenberg had his first multi-hit game in his second start with Jacksonville. Go him.

2006-06-11: Vero Beach 2, Brevard County 5 #
Hoffmann: 1-4, 1 K
Raglani: 0-4
Dunlap: 0-3, 1 K
Denker, T: 0-3, 2 K
Paul, X: 0-3
Wilson: (L, 1-3), 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 2.73 ERA
Pimentel: 1.2 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.12 ERA
The Manatees four-hit the Dodgers, causing Vero to lose five straight.
2006-06-11: Rome 7, Columbus 5 #
Godwin: 2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB
De Jesus: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Locke: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Sutherland: 4-4
Justis: 2-4, 1 2B
Horlacher: (L, 0-1), 2.0 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 10.29 ERA
Felix: 3.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 4.81 ERA
Alvarez: 2.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 4.45 ERA
Garrison: 2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 0.00 ERA
Kind of a weird game in which the Braves never trailed, yet they were outhit by the Fish. A four-run second against David Horlacher put Rome ahead, followed up by two more in the third and one in the sixth; Eric Campbell drove in three for the Braves, including a two-run homer off Horlacher.
2006-06-11: GCL Dodgers did not play
2006-06-11: Ogden did not play

Comments:
Jose Arredondo's numbers are pretty impressive.

He's leading the Cal League with 92 Ks in only 68 IP, against only 28 BB (3.28K/BB ratio). His K/9 is 12.17. His BAA is .188. His WHIP is 1.07, and his ERA stands at 1.99.

I know he hasn't been pitching for long and maybe it's better for him to get a full season of high-A ball under his belt, but wouldn't it make some sense to promote him to Arkansas (after I finally get to see him pitch, that is) and promote the equally-impressive Nick Adenhart to replace him at Rancho?

It sure seems like there's some kind of plague attacking hotshot pitchers who get promoted to Arkansas this year. Rafael Rodriguez, who had a 0.53 ERA in an admittedly small sample size with the Quakes (17 IP), now has a 8.53 ERA. Nick Green turned a 4.15 ERA into a 4.97 ERA with a slight dropoff in his strikeouts. The Angels are being justifiably cautious handling Adenhart and Arredondo.

How old are Rodriguez and Green?

Adenhart's obviously a young'un, and I think this is only Arredondo's second year as a pitcher. That would also justify a more cautious approach with them.

Green's 21, but he'll be 22 at the end of August. That's pretty young for AA.
