Casey Smith provided a third of the Bees' offense as Salt Lake clobbered Las Vegas in a seven-inning contest, the first game of a doubleheader. Nick Gorneault, Mike Eylward, and Corey Myers all had good offensive nights, while Steven Shell had a two-hit shutout over five innings; he was pulled after only 66 pitches. Matt Wilhite gave up a single hit and the only run for Las Vegas.

Another seven-inning affair, Las Vegas went into the ninth with a 2-1 lead, but Tommy Murphy drove in the tying run on an RBI single, putting Reggie Willits on third. Howie Kendrick then walked, and Justin Reid threw a wild pitch to end the game.

Fernando Rodriguez pitched a gem that Joe Torres promptly screwed up by giving up a walk, a single, and a wild pitch to score a run, eventually walking that same batter. Yanked for Kevin Jepsen, both Torres' inherited baserunners scored. By the time the dust cleared, seven Mavericks had crossed the plate.

With the bases loaded, Russell Mitchell hit a bases-clearing double, and Lucas May arrived at first safely on a throwing error that scored Mitchell. Leadoff man Ivan De Jesus did not reach base once.
