Maury Wills Knows A Lot About Stolen Bases, But...
this sounds a lot like sour grapes:

Wills comment was not sour grapes he was merley making the observation that the base was stolen off of Billingly's slow delivery and the fact that Orlando always wanted to steal home. Wills also made the point it is a very high risk move and while he stole many bases once Wills got to 3rd he would let his RBI men drive him in. He mentioned in particular Tommy Davis and Frank Howard!

So how are your cliff notes on Wills' comments in any way proof that this wasn't sour grapes?
It was. He's undercutting another player's heads-up play because the scent of those bygone laurel leaves is just to hard to repress.
Saying that all the factors have to be right for a 'steal of home' to be a steal of home does not obviate the fact that all the factors were right and Orlando stole home.
Anything else is agenda riding.
