Myers: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Rouwenhorst: (W, 5-5), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 4.17 ERA
How the heck did this happen? Dallas at least put wood on the ball, but the real hero was eight-hitting Corey Meyers, who slammed a two-run dinger into left, scoring Jeff Mathis. Jonathan Rouwenhorst and three relievers managed to suppress the Grizzlies' attack, retiring the side in order only once, in the bottom of the eighth.

It was 109° F at gametime with a 15 mph breeze to center. Wowzers. Amazing this wasn't a high-scoring game.

Haynes: 4-5, 1 2B

Edwards: (L, 7-4) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.89 ERA
Three plunked batters between the two sides and yet no ejections; from that point of view it was a good night, but not for Jose Arredondo, who got chased early. Brandon Wood clocked his 21st homer off Steven Register, and old farmhand Nathan Haynes went 4-5. Kyle Edens had a solid night, pitching three scoreless innings. Bill Edwards, who hadn't given up an earned run in his last four outings, gave up two unearned in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a Matt Brown throwing error, and took the loss. Wood also doubled in the bottom of the ninth to score a run in a two-out rally, but Matt Brown's frustrating night continued at the plate as he grounded out to third to end the game; he finished 1-5.

Sutton: 2-5, 1 2B
Sandoval, F: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB

Jepsen: 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.72 ERA
Stephen Marek's first win with Rancho, it was also his first game with that club and pretty good considering. His teammates gave him terriffic run support, though it was a close thing; trailing 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Quakes then posted an eight-run sixth that decided the game. Rancho also scored in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Port reliever Brad Sullivan, part of a four-run inning in which Sullivan only got one out. Reserve catcher Tim Duff got his first homer of the year, and four Quakes had multi-hit games besides.

Didjurgis: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.17 ERA
Tied 1-1 through the sixth, the Kernels' Madison Edwards scored on a two-out balk off Quad Cities' reliever Matthew Trent; the opportunity for more was snuffed out when Hainley Statia was hit by a batted ball. The Swing came back on consecutive doubles to post three more, deciding the game.

BTW, I really like Mark Trumbo's three walks here. He's had one or more walks in his last seven games, and has been getting on base every game since July 3, during which time he's hitting .333/.544/.538; unfortunately, he's had relatively few extra base hits during that time.

A romp. P.J. Phillips had his best game of the year while playing at third base (you did know he's playing third these days, not short, right?), going 4-5 with a dinger. Scott Knazek was almost perfect at the plate, too.
