2006-07-22: Tucson 10, Salt Lake 7 #
Murphy: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Aybar: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
McPherson: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Gorneault: 0-4, 3 K
Mathis, J: 1-4, 2 K
Shell: (L, 3-5), 4.0 IP, 9 R, 9 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 2 HR, 5.62 ERA
Steven got Shelled (bad name for a pitcher, that, almost as bad as Grant Balfour), his third straight bad outing since returning from the DL on July 8. The bad news started with a five-run fifth that included a grand slam by Sidewinder Brian Barden. He got ripped again in a four-run fourth keyed by a bases-loaded triple by former Angel prospect Alberto Callaspo.

D-Mac pasted a solo homer, who also got on base on a hit-by-pitch. It was a tough outing for Nick Gorneault, who made his first AAA appearance since coming back from the DL.

2006-07-22: Arkansas 2, Tulsa 11 #
Haynes: 2-4, 1 K
Wood: 0-4, 3 K
Evans: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Wilson: 1-4
Davidson: (L, 2-8), 4.2 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 5.54 ERA
That Jamie Moyer-style career seems to be slipping away from Dan Davidson, who just hasn't been able to string together any kind of success this year. Brandon Wood got a silver sombrero, though Matt Brown's double extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Tino Sanchez, a 27-year-old catcher in AA, drove in five runs against the Travs.
2006-07-22: Rancho Cucamonga 2, Inland Empire 4 #
Rodriguez, S: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Collins: 1-4
Toussaint: 0-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Rodriguez, F: (L, 7-5), 8.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 4.37 ERA
Fernando Rodriguez pitched a complete game and lost anyway, surrendering a pair of homers, though the go-ahead run followed a Jack Arroyo triple and a passed ball by Freddy Sandoval.
2006-07-22: Cedar Rapids vs. Quad Cities: Cancelled: Rain #
2006-07-22: Cedar Rapids vs. Quad Cities: Postponed: Rain #
Because this was the last time the two clubs will meet this year, the first game has been cancelled. The most games the Kernels can play in the second half is 69.
2006-07-22: Orem 16, Helena 9 #
Mount: 3-5, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Bourjos: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Rivera: 0-4, 2 BB, 1 K
Pettit: 0-2, 3 BB, 1 K
Phillips: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Sales: 2-5, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Nieves: 2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Reinhardt: 2-5, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Calderon: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 8.31 ERA
Connelly: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.05 ERA
A real slugfest and chock-full of good news for Angels fans who think the Halos don't walk enough: every Orem batter got at least one free pass, and in Christopher Pettit's case, three, as the Brewers walked fourteen batters and hit a pair of batters as well. P.J. Phillips homered in the wild victory.
2006-07-22: AZL Padres 4, AZL Angels 3 #
Moore: 2-4, 2 K
Torres: (L, 0-3), 4.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 4 BB, 5.13 ERA
2006-07-22: Portland 6, Las Vegas 4 #
Kemp: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Guzman, J: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Loney: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
LaRoche: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Young, D: 0-1
Eckert: (L, 5-7), 5.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 5 BB, 7.19 ERA
Osoria: 0.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.85 ERA
Gonzalez, L: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 5.20 ERA
Franquelis Osoria: unsafe at any level. Good game for Joel Guzman and Andy LaRoche, though I suppose this qualifies as a slump for James Loney given his late hot streak.
2006-07-22: Chattanooga 8, Jacksonville 5 #

Wright: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 6.35 ERA
2006-07-22: Tampa 12, Vero Beach 2 #
Paul, X: 2-5, 1 K
Dewitt: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K

Hoffmann: 0-2, 2 BB
Johnson, B: (L, 4-5), 5.0 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 11 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3 HR, 4.92 ERA
Castillo, A: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 6.20 ERA
21 hits for the Yankees in this game, three of which were homers, in a total and utter humiliation of the Dodgers. Blake Dewitt hit a solo shot in the third for his 16th of the year. Blake Johnson obviously delivered a terrible game.
2006-07-22: Columbus 6, Asheville 5 #
De Jesus: 1-5, 1 K
Denker, T: 0-3, 2 BB
May: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB

Pratt: (W, 5-3) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 5.98 ERA
Consecutive nights with grand slams for Lucas May; maybe the Tourists want to go home now. Oh, wait, they are home.
2006-07-22: Ogden 5, Missoula 2 #
Rivera, J: 1-5, 1 K
Bell: 1-5, 3 K
Brown: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Martin: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Brooks: 4.0 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1.50 ERA
Sanfler: (W, 1-1) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 1.93 ERA
2006-07-22: GCL Nationals 1, GCL Dodgers 5 #
Mattingly: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Jansen: 4-4, 1 RBI
Herrera: 2-4, 1 RBI
Ketchner: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Kershaw: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1.12 ERA
A very nice bit of pitching for Clayton Kershaw, who got as many strikeouts as innings pitched while walking nobody; he's walked one in his professional career, which spans sixteen innings. Ryan Ketchner, who must be back on a rehab start, went two innings and damn near struck out the side twice, and bully for him. Kenley Jansen was perfect at the plate, and going into the game with a .217 average, he left it with a .266 average; he needed it.

Comments:
The Padres need a third baseman. I wonder if the Angels could use McPherson to pry Scott Linebrink away, who would surely solidify the Halos' beleagured middle relief corps.

Don't forget: the Angels could use one, too.

True, but by now it seems pretty clear that Dallas will never be the Angels' everyday 3B. Better to just pull the plug on McPherson, move Brandon Wood over and make do until he's ready in 2009.

At worst, "making do" with Dallas could mean waiting until Brandon Wood is ready at 3B, and even then, it doesn't seem likely the Angels will give up on Dallas any time soon.
