Not In The Cards: Cardinals 2, Dodgers 1
The best thing to come out of this game was Bob Timmermann's Dodger Whipping Boy Checklist, which I recall here:
Scott Erickson Mark Hendrickson holding his own through six and two thirds.
Of course, I would add (27) Kemp - not Matt Kemp, considering his late collapse and optioning to Las Vegas, but that wasn't surprising. What was surprising was
- Drew - doesn't hit enough homers
- Kent - contract too long, bad fielder
- Lofton - blocking Matt Kemp
- Izturis - doesn't hit enough
- Nomar - is no longer hitting over .700 after the seventh inning and hence is useless (expounded last night)
- Hendrickson - not good enough
- Baez - not good at all
- Tomko - not good enough
- Billingsley - throws too many pitches
- Lowe - too flakey
- Furcal - poor fielder, overpaid
- Ethier - won't be as good as Kemp (this is a problem for some people)
- Sele - mirage
- Ledee - not Matt Kemp
- Saenz - doesn't socialize with teammates enough
- Hall - doesn't want to be here
- Alomar - old and doesn't walk
- Penny - whined too much in game at Atlanta
- Broxton - should be starter, not as good as advertised
- Saito - see 13
- Cruz - can't hit
- Beimel - see 20
- Martinez - see 22
- Perez - too many things to mention
- Carrara - retread
- Martin - lone player beyond reproach
Take number seven and number eleven on this game. Furcal caught a lineout but threw wide of first, allowing David Eckstein to get to second, and then Baez blew up. Eww.
