Today's Birthdays
James Baldwin LAN b. 1971, played 2001, All-Star: 2000. His checkered career started with the White Sox, and he spent most of his time in Chicago taxing the patience of Charlie Manuel with his inconsistency. Traded in exasperation to the Dodgers for a pile of junk, Baldwin found the National League as inhospitable as the American League. Definitely one of Dan Evans' worse acquisitions, he's out of baseball (unless he's pitching in the Japanese leagues somewhere).
Wilson Delgado ANA b. 1972, played 2003
Bruce Edwards BRO b. 1923, played 1946-1951, All-Star: 1947, 1951, d. 1975-04-25. Almost immediately became the Dodgers starting catcher at 22 when he came up in 1946, and made the All-Star team the next year. He hurt his arm in an exhibition game playing a Folsom prison team, and lost the power he did have. The advent of Roy Campanella pushed him to backup status.
Gene Leek LAA b. 1936, played 1961-1962
Dan McGann BRO b. 1871, played 1899, d. 1910-12-13
