I was at Blair Field tonight and finally got some decent shots of Jose Canseco, of which, more later, but having left my cellphone at home and only one radio, I picked Lackey vs. the D-Rays. Good choice, 'cause D-Lowe blew up to the tune of four earned runs. Not that that's terrible, but you hope for more against a team you're going to see — if you see them — in the postseason.Lackey Keeps Rolling: Angels 4, Devil Rays 0
That's two straight complete game shutouts for John Lackey, three straight where he's allowed no earned runs, and three straight with ten strikeouts. That's en fuego.Thanks for the homer, Vlad (and 3-4, huzzah), but no less for good offense off the bat of Adam Kennedy (2-4 with an RBI) and Garret Anderson (2-4). I confess to being worried about Napoli, who's hitting .200 in July. The league's catching up to him, I fear.

We're not out of the woods. Morales and Cabrera combining to leave 8 men on base is pretty scary. And having Figgins in scoring position two consecutive times to have the 3-5 guys implode behind him was not funny.
But hey, a win's a win, and Lackey was terrific. One more to .500.

I agree about Napoli, although I'm not sure it's the league that's catching up to him - I think he's merely catching up to himself and his .255 career minor league BA.
However, if he can maintain his BB rate and his ISO, he should still be much better than league average.
HE'S the one guy that has far exceeded expectations - his VORP is third in the AL for catchers, despite having half the AB's of the two frontrunners, Mauer and Martinez. He has reached his PECOTA 75th percentile already, and is on pace to reach his 90th percentile. Which is to say, I guess, kudos to Mike...but let's watch him very carefully in the second half...
