Andruw Jones Palaver

Yes, the Angels are said to be interested in Andruw Jones, the Braves' perpetually injured centerfielder recently placed on waivers. So are the Red Sox, but with the third best record in the league, chances of them getting him are about zero. Also, as of August 15, he gains 10/5 rights to veto a trade. An anonymous team placed a waiver claim on him, and the Braves now can either accept that trade or lose the right to trade Jones for the balance of the season.

The deadline for a deal is 1 PM Eastern on Saturday. That's less than 24 hours.

Update: Yes, I got him confused with Chipper.

Comments:
In all likelihood, Jones won't be moved (at least not to the Angels). I don't think that Stoneman would be any more willing to part with his most coveted prospects for Jones than for anyone else (e.g., Tejada) that was theoretically available prior to the non-waiver deadline.

But the Angels would be foolish not to have put in a claim.

My prediction (in the event that it is ever disclosed) is that the team with the ranking "claim" was Houston or the Dodgers (remember all NL clubs get their crack at him before any AL clubs do).

But it makes for a nice little midsummer daydream, if you're an Angels fan.

I think you're mixing up your Atlanta Joneses...Chipper's the perpetually injured one, while Andruw perenially plays 150+ games.

Vic's right. I just took a look at his stats - he played 30 games in his first season in '96. Since then he's never played in fewer than 150 games in a season, and played in 160+ 4 of those 9 seasons.

However, it's possible that he just plays hurt all the time?

No, I think Vic's right, I was confusing the Jones "brothers" in the Atlanta lineup.

Since the Angels have one of the deepest farm systems, and you can only trade players not on the 40 man roster, I think the Angels are one of only a few teams who would actually have the prospects not on the 40 man roster to make a trade. It's still highly improbable to happen, but it's just a thought.

He'd be a nice addition, to be sure, but considering the Braves' weren't able to find a good offer before the deadline, it wouldn't make much sense to deal him now for even lesser prospects than what they would have recieved before the deadline. But oh, to a have a real-life centerfielder who can actually HIT??? I'd take Andruw in a second.
