A Half Game, But No More: Angels 5, Mariners 2

At some point, you have to wonder whether the Angels are going to go to the postseason. For me, this day is always before the first game of the year, but serious prognostication doesn't really start until the last month of the year. The PECOTA-tainted projected standings show the Angels with a 6% shot to make the postseason one way or another, but really, I never thought of this year's squad as anything more than a mile marker to a real championship team in 2007 or 2008.

Tonight, they managed a win against a flailing Mariners squad, getting crucial insurance runs off newcomer Mark Lowe, promoted all the way up from A-ball. That in part was because Chone Figgins was actually hitting, something he hasn't done a lot of this year. Vlad drove in three on a bases-loaded double, yet Howie Kendrick was hitless at the bottom of the order. A puzzle.
