Milestones: Angels 2, Rangers 1

What bugged me about this game was the sudden expression of Texas pitching, a capability they haven't really exhibited much of in recent years. They have the fifth worst staff ERA (4.61) in the league, so it's not like you feel you have no hope against them. The problem, of course, is that the Angels' bats are about as cold as an anvil in the bottom of Lake Michigan in January. But despite expectations, both Jered Weaver and Robinson Tejeda pitched solid games, both pitchers getting goose eggs over seven, Weaver doing better on the technical merit of having only surrendered one hit through seven.

The zeros piled up through the ninth, when both sides scored a single run apiece. Frankie Rodriguez managed to get two consecutive outs to start the bottom of the ninth, but consecutive doubles from Carlos Lee and Hank Blalock tied it up. Both sides again put up a scoreless tenth, but Vlad's homer in the 11th — his 100th as an Angel — gave the Halos a lead that Brendan Donnelly successfully defended, even through the 2-3-4 hitters in the lineup.

With the win, Mike Scioscia collected his 600th career major league win. As of this writing, the A's lead the White Sox 3-2.
