Minor League Scorebook
News
- Travelerocity has some great final photos of Ray Winder Field from Sunday's last game ever.
- Mike Emeigh had some interesting observations about the minors, including this piece:
Joel Guzman has fallen so far off the prospect map that he's going to need a guide dog to find his way back. I saw him play three games this past week in Durham, and he has (a) a very slow bat and (b) slow reflexes in the field. He totally misjudged two popups (only one of which cost him an error), was caught flatfooted on a routine grounder (which he booted), dived for a grounder that wasn't more than about two feet to his left (making what should have been a relatively simple play took hard) and didn't hit a single ball with any authority whatsoever. I have no idea what happened here, but he's not someone who I'd even take a flyer on at this point.
- Speaking of... here's a summary of the minor league postseason. Of the clubs followed here, AAA Las Vegas and AAA Salt Lake have the most remaining games.
- Roster movement by Mike Emeigh:
- Las Vegas (PCL): Sent C Einar Diaz, 1B James Loney, and OF Matt Kemp to Dodgers. Added 1B Cory Dunlap, OF Jamie Hoffmann, and Ps Zach Hammes and Adam Thomas from Vero Beach. Sent P Eric Stults to Dodgers. Probably the only surprise was Stults, who had pitched poorly in the regular season.
- Salt Lake (PCL): INF Dallas McPherson was recalled from ML rehab by Angels and optioned back to Salt Lake. Sent C Jeff Mathis, OF Curtis Pride (recall from ML rehab), and P Chris Bootcheck to Angels. Added P Jeff Heaverlo from Arkansas. Added INF Sean Rodriguez from Arkansas. The Travs weren't going to the postseason, so may as well give him a few extra at bats with all the callups. Bootcheck is a garbage-time reliever to use at the back end of the bullpen, but he likely won't see any action.
- Rancho Cucamonga (Cal): Sent OF Darin Erstad (recall from ML rehab) to Angels.
- Vero Beach (FSL): Added P Ryan Ketchner (recall from minor league rehab), INFs Francisco Lizarraga and Brian Mathews, and OF Trayvon Robinson from GCL Dodgers. I was sort of surprised to see Ketchner this far down after pitching for Jacksonville earlier, but maybe he's still having trouble.
- Columbus (SAL): Activated P Nate Hochgesang from the DL.
- Team USA and Cuba qualified for the Olympics, the US with an 11-5 pasting of Panama on Sunday. (Also via MILB.com.) Brandon Wood went 2-3 with a walk and scored three runs.
- Ogden's team hotel might be haunted.
- Looks like the weekly notebooks and BA's Prospect Hot Sheet skipped a day for the holiday.

Gelinas: (BS, 1)(W, 3-8) (in relief), 4.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 5.68 ERA
A real hitter's paradise game as Bobby Mosebach coughed up another bunch of runs, including a bases-loading hit-by-pitch that preceded a Jon Zeringue grand slam. Fortunately, Patrick Reilly and Ben Johnson made some of that up, but with a 13-9 lead in the bottom of the ninth, the JetHawks managed to tie the game up once again with a four-run rally that forced extra innings. The Quakes and Hawks traded single runs in the 11th, but Ben Johnson's two-run shot in the 12th decided the game, as Karl Gelinas notched his third win of the season despite blowing the save.
