Minor League Scorebook
News
- Brandon Wood finished the season with the Texas League lead for extra-base hits, though not the minor league lead; he probably would have both had he not left to play with Team USA in Olympic qualifiers. He was only eight off the pace of 26 year old Brooks Conrad of AAA Round Rock. James Loney won the minor league batting title with a .380 average.
- The last notebooks of the year, I think: PCL (Bees, 51's),
Texas League (Travs),
Southern League (Suns),
California League (Quakes),
Florida State League (Vero Beach Dodgers),
Midwest League (Kernels),
South Atlantic League (Catfish);
the Pioneer League (Owlz, Raptors) has yet to check in.
The Bees can hit, but they have a problem familiar to Angels fans:
Defensively the Bees were among the worst teams in the PCL, with only one team making more errors than their 144 total. Salt Lake also isn't likely to come back from a deficit: only once this season have the Bees been able to claim a win in a contest where they trailed entering the ninth.
- Not sure if I missed this one earlier or not, but here's an MILB.com article about Angels pitching prospect Trevor Bell.
Scores
Obviously a very abbreviated version as all leagues but the Pioneer League have completed their seasons.
2006-09-05: Salt Lake did not play
2006-09-05: Arkansas did not play
2006-09-05: Rancho Cucamonga did not play
2006-09-05: Cedar Rapids did not play
2006-09-05: Casper 3, Orem 0 #
Mount: 0-4, 3 K
Johnson: 0-1, 3 BB
Phillips: 0-4, 2 K

Sullivan: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 3.97 ERA
Good grief, how good do you have to be? Trevor Bell limited the Rockies to one run over six innings while striking out nine and only surrendering one walk, five hits, and a run-scoring wild pitch, yet he got tagged with a loss thanks to Yull Silano and two relievers two-hitting the Owlz.

2006-09-05: AZL Angels did not play
2006-09-05: Las Vegas did not play
I wrote incorrectly yesterday that the
51's had one game remaining; in fact, yesterday was their last game.
Las Vegas finishes 67-77, good for third place in the Pacific South
division.

Comments:
Speaking of Brandon Wood . . .
"Brandon Wood hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning as Team USA defeated Cuba, 8-5, on Tuesday in the gold-medal game of the Olympic qualifying tournament."
