Is It A Bird? A Plane? No, It's Suppan-Man! Cardinals 5, Mets 0

Mixing comic-book hero catchphrases a bit, Holy Unlikely Outcomes, Batman! No, it was the Cards coming out swinging against a shockingly inept Steve Trachsel, who surrendered all five runs, including pitching to four batters in the second without making a single out. Scott Spiezio once again provided another unexpected moment of heroism by blasting a triple to right, clearing the bases and giving the Cards all the lead they would need. Suppan held down the Mets in a masterful performance that was one pitch shy of 100, while random callup Josh Kinney pitched a perfect ninth. It's hard to believe any of it, yet here the 83-win Cards stand, two wins away from advancing to the World Series.

Update: Steve Trachsel was injured in tonight's game (via BTF), something I forgot to mention; he took a line drive to his right thigh. Now, it's Oliver Perez's turn to hold up the Mets' honor, and, um, is he up to the task? A 6.38 ERA and a 1-3 record say otherwise... the Mets' Sunday starter, Tom Glavine on short rest, could be equally iffy, considering he pitched terribly against the Dodgers on short rest earlier in the season, giving up seven hits and six runs over 5.1 IP, including three homers.
