Dave Winfield CAL b. 1951, played 1990-1991, All-Star: 1977-1988, Hall of Fame: 2001 (BBWAA). Some guys are just born with a bat in their hands it seems like, and so Winfield was; multitalented, he was drafted by teams from three different sports, he chose baesball and the Padres. He came straight up to the big club and had success right away. He is in the franchise top ten in single-season and career average, OPS, SLG, OBP, at-bats, runs, total bases, RBIs, extra-base hits, and intentional walks; and these career stats: hits, singles, doubles, triples, home runs, walks, strikeouts, stolen bases, hit-by-pitches, sac flies, and GIDPs. His career with the Yankees was marked by controversy and rancor as he didn't lead the team to a World Series title, the worst imaginable failing in George Steinbrenner's mind.
I never quite understood how Winfield ended up a Top 100 Angel; his career in a Halo uniform lasted only a year and two-thirds before he left for Toronto (where he helped them to that franchise's first title, so thppt to you, George), Minnesota, and Cleveland before hanging up his spikes in 1995.
