J.D. Drew Opts Out

And time to celebrate! J.D. Drew has opted out of his Dodger contract. Good luck finding a better deal on that $11M/year for your lousy knees and declining power production. I thought this would end happily for the Dodgers. And it looks like I was right.

And Scott Boras: well, sure, nobody made these teams do their bidding, but ... there's still that burning lake thing. Or maybe not. Whatever. Sayonara, J.D. I'm indifferent.

Update: More on this from Jon and Inside The Dodgers.

Comments:
Yay! Let's celebrate losing the guy who had the second-highest OBP in the NL among OFs, and the only consistent hitter we had last year outside of Furcal. Yay!

In 2005, Drew whined about playing CF when he wanted to play RF, or was it the other way around? If he considers himself a CF, this could be good news for the Angels. His presence in the lineup, even for 135 games, would help that team a lot. Also, his being available probably lowers the price (slightly) on a trade for Vernon Wells.

I'm not sure that I want to see him in Angels red, though.

Happy happy joy joy. One less overpriced player. Lets see if Scott Boras can find another sucker. My crystal ball says, he'll give up and sign with KC for 1.5m

Anon -- I know Drew had a good year THIS year, but I find it difficult to believe he will reproduce it...

Rob - I don't think its a bad thing either. If this were the A's, they'd be saying, we don't have to pay 10m a year for a productive RF.
