Padres Sign Bud Black For Manager

I don't get that the Sandy Alderson-led Padres would sign a pitching coach with little-to-no experience managing, but that's what the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting. (Also via MLB.com.) Now, as one of my commenters earlier in the day asked, who will be the Angels' pitching coach?

I don't think the Devil Rays would let go of their major league pitching coach.

huge gamble? yes. no experience, and coaching former peers would be the biggest land mines.

probably most dependent on his relationship with Scioscia. but he's well respected with team mates, an organizational man, and has been an unofficial bullpen coach for years.
