Today's Birthdays
Orlando Mercado LAN b. 1961, played 1987
Rich Rodas LAN b. 1959, played 1983-1984
Russ Springer CAL b. 1968, played 1993-1995. Man, I had no idea he was this old.
Dick Stuart CAL,LAN b. 1932, played 1966, 1969, All-Star: 1961, d. 2002-12-15. Derisively nicknamed "Dr. Strangeglove" because of his hideous fielding; even relegated to first base, he managed to lead the league's first basemen in errors almost every year. But he could hit the ball a country mile, hitting 66 bombs in class A ball, a number he signed next to his name everywhere. His offense collapsed in his 1966 season, one in which he played briefly for the Dodgers; he went to Japan for a couple years, recrossed the Pacific to join the Angels for 22 games, and retired.
Tom Walker CAL b. 1948, played 1977
