Baseball America Ranks Angels Top Prospects

Baseball America has ranked the top prospects in the Angels farm system thusly:
  1. Brandon Wood, ss
  2. Nick Adenhart, rhp
  3. Erick Aybar, ss
  4. Young-Il Jung, rhp
  5. Stephen Marek, rhp
  6. Hank Conger, c
  7. Jeff Mathis, c
  8. Sean Rodriguez, ss/2b
  9. Sean O'Sullivan, rhp
  10. Tommy Mendoza, rhp
It's a little disconcerting to see Conger, for whom a broken hamate bone limited him to 69 at bats this year, appears ahead of Jeff Mathis on this list; apparently, Mathis' failures at the plate knocked him down some. It'll be interesting to see what they have to say when the prospect guide comes out next year.

Comments:
the biggest disconcerting thing to me is Rodriguez at #8 - he seems nothing but a utility guy to me.

the list and players commented upon in the chat definitely is step below the last 3 years.

i've tended to agree with BA's list above other's lists in the past few years, but this year? not so much.

Who would you have moved up in the list who isn't in the top 10, though? The Angels have graduated a lot of prospects to the Show, and while they still have quite a few good players getting ready in the minors, the talent level isn't quite what it was even last year.

yes, that's kind of the point - we definitely aren't as strong, so i don't know.

Jose Arredondo was a surprise to be missing from the Top 10. Bell and Mount were high draft choices and doing OK, but i can't personally say any would really deserve to be rated higher.

Matthews mentions he had Phillips in his Top 10, and one last candidate would be Terry Evans.
