- Here's a comprehensive review of Paul DePodesta's activity as Dodgers GM.
- The Dodgers offered arbitration to Julio Lugo, but not Greg Maddux, Eric Gagne, Kenny Lofton, Aaron Sele or Einar Diaz.
- The Angels declined to offer arbitration to Darin Erstad. Erstad will get a minor league deal from the Angels if he can't find a job elsewhere.
- The Giants did not offer Barry Bonds arbitration.
- Ray Durham will return as the Giants' 2B on a two-year/$14-$15M deal.
- Dave Roberts has signed with the Giants as their starting centerfielder, on a three-year/$18M deal.
- The A's offered arbitration to Barry Zito, but declined it for Jay Payton.
- Troy Percival will take 2008 off and will reconsider his options after that.
Comments:
That Dave Roberts contract is probably the best reason why the Gary Matthews Jr. contract was bad. At 2 years and $32 million less, you get a player that may very well be better.
IIRC, Pedro Borbon was known as one of the last guys in the league anybody wanted to get in fight with.
