Today's Birthdays

Jolbert Cabrera LAN b. 1972, played 2002-2003. A useful slap-hitting utility player, he didn't hurt the Dodgers when he played, but neither was he the big bat they needed when the team was dying offensively in 2003. Traded to Seattle in 2004 at the beginning of the season, he hasn't played in the majors since that year.

Jeff Davanon ANA,LAA b. 1973, played 1999, 2001-2005. Maya may forget, but I can't; .290/.371/.448 is a great line for a fourth outfielder, which reminds me to ask the question, why do the Angels seem to think of Juan Rivera as a sub? Anyway, Jay Jaffee wrote a nice little piece on him a couple years back, which I invite you to read now. At 33, I don't think he's got a lot of time left.

Eddie Dent BRO b. 1887, played 1909, 1911-1912, d. 1974-11-25

Tim Foli CAL b. 1950, played 1982-1983

Alan Foster CAL,LAN b. 1946, played 1967-1970, 1972

John Orton CAL b. 1965, played 1989-1993

Comments:
Jolbert's brother is a bit more well-known: he's the Angels' shortstop.

Rivera a sub? I think he's one of the starting corner OF'ers, is he not? Hence the need to acquire a third baseman, and not a corner OF'er?

I was thinking more of this year, but sure.
