MLB Extra Innings Exclusive On DirecTV; Seitz Quits Angels, Blogging
Seems the idiotic rumor of MLB taking Extra Innings away from cable is about to become a reality, with the net result that Seitz is going to stop writing about the Angels, it being he won't be watching them, either. I still think this is one of the dumbest things the MLB bozos have done so far, but then, their broadcast agreements are all about short-term gain (of money) and long-term losses (of fans and fan goodwill).
Comments:
Well, I haven't quit blogging. I just likely won't be writing about the Angels very much, and what I do write won't be particularly insightful. Or at least, it won't any more insightful than what I was writing before (assuming anyone thought I offered any insight at all).
I'm toying with the idea of looking into DirecTV, but I don't like to write about individual games that I can't actually see. I still think it's a bad move by baseball, but it's a lot of money to pass up, especially if they think it will increase subscriptions to MLBTV. They could see it as win-win.

Yeah, but the whole MLB.TV thing brings several disastrous things into play:
1) Idiotic broadcast TV coverage zones.
2) Inferior resolution to even NTSC.
3) MLBAM's upraised middle digit to non-Microsoft platforms.
So if we want to watch out-of-market Cubs games not on WGN, it's MLB.TV or nothing. This may be a good thing for the regularity with which we attend the gym once the season kicks in.
