Jim Barr CAL b. 1948, played 1979-1980
Jack Fimple LAN,CAL b. 1959, played 1983-1984, 1986-1987. One of only two major leaguers to come out of Humboldt State, Jack Fimple was one of those guys you just like to root for but whose ultimate end was to be an also-ran in the Obscure Yet Memorable Dodger contest. Memorable, of course, because of his role in a particular September 11 game, back before 9/11 had such awful connotations. With the pennant on the line, Fimple drove in two on a second-inning double in a crazy game that the Dodgers pulled out by scoring four runs in the ninth, the last on a suicide squeeze by R.J. Reynolds. Of course, there are those who are still cranky about the fact that he was traded for the at times fantastic Rick Sutcliffe. I balance that by knowing he didn't end up in the Dodger broadcast booth, the Padres' burden for many years.
Russ Heman LAA b. 1933, played 1961
Cesar Izturis LAN b. 1980, played 2002-2005, All-Star: 2005. Had his career year in 2004 but got his trip to the All Star game the next year regardless. Now a Cub, the Friendly Confines at Wrigley haven't been so friendly to him (.233/.282/.260). At least he's not Neifi Perez.
Randy Jackson BRO,LAN b. 1926, played 1956-1958, All-Star: 1954-1955. Fetched from the Cubs, where he had a pair of All-Star years before the trade, he split time with Jackie Robinson at third in Robinson's last year in the majors. His playing time diminished as the aging Pee Wee Reese took over at third in 1957, and he was relegated to a supporting role for his remaining time with the club, which took him into the first year in Los Angeles.
