2007-04-07: Arkansas 1, Frisco 0 #

Gonzalez, M: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA
A teriffic game by Nick Adenhart, making his debut for Arkansas this eason. Sean Rodriguez contributed a solo homer off Frisco starter Eric Gagne, working in the first; he struck out one and walked none, and now owns a 5.40 ERA. I'm sure he'd tell you that his arm felt just fine before the game.

Update: In Gagne's defense, the weather at Dr. Pepper Ballpark was blisteringly cold, 42 degrees at game time.

Despite being saddled with the loss, Gagne was pleased with his outing. ‘I felt a little stiffness, but felt good,” Gagne said after his appearance. “My curveball and change up were not as good as yesterday, but I tried to work everything.”
2007-04-07: Lake Elsinore 0, Rancho Cucamonga 3 #
Statia: 1-4, 1 K
Renz: 1-1, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Toussaint: 0-3, 1 K
Ortega: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Anthony Ortega posted a very good start, striking out five while walking none and giving up only three hits over five scoreless frames. Jordan Renz walked twice and hit a sac fly that Storm centerfielder Yordany Ramirez misplayed into an unearned run and allowed Renz to reach. Darren O'Day struck out all three batters he faced to get the save.
2007-04-07: Cedar Rapids 1, Beloit 2 #
Trumbo: 1-3, 1 K
Conger: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Ortiz, W: 2-2, 1 3B
Phillips: 0-2
Herndon: 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 1.50 ERA
Madrigal: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 13.50 ERA
Sub-freezing temperatures complicated a surprisingly tight pitching duel that featured a very strong outing by Kenneth Herndon. Hank Conger's fourth inning solo homer gave the Kernels the lead, but the Snappers scratched out a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie things up. Then, Warner Madrigal, who did well in spring training in limited (2.1 IP) service, got knocked around in a tumultuous ninth inning. Madrigal almost got out of a men-on-the-corners, one-out jam when he elicited a tapper to the box, with Conger getting the tag at home plate. But then with first baseman Johnny Woodard at second, catcher Gregory Yersich smacked a walkoff single to end the game in seven innings, the first of two scheduled; the second was postponed due to the freezing temperatures.

The Kernels have Sunday off, due to Easter, and will resume play on Monday.

2007-04-07: Las Vegas 3, Salt Lake 7 #

LaRoche: 0-4, 1 K
Young: 2-4
Mays: (L, 0-1), 5.0 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.60 ERA
An RBI by James Loney and Delwyn Young's 2-4 day were about all the 51's could salvage from this stinker. Joe Mays got clobbered in his first appearance for Las Vegas, striking out nobody while walking one. Three of his five runs were off errors by shortstop Tomas Perez, who committed two, one of which resulted in Nick Gorneault scoring. In the fourth, Tony Abreu botched a play that allowed Matt Brown to reach, and eventually score (along with two others).

Wade: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1.80 ERA
These Cal League games are just crazy... call this one payback for yesterday's debacle. Blake DeWitt and Lucas May hit back-to-back homers, and Elian Herrera drove in three.

2007-04-07: Ogden did not play
