Scores

2007-04-23: Tacoma 6, Salt Lake 8 #
Haynes: 3-5, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Mathis: 1-3, 1 RBI
Wood: 1-4, 3 K
Eylward: 2-4, 1 K
Evans: 2-4, 1 K
Brown: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Liriano: (W, 1-2), 6.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 11 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 7.50 ERA
Wilhite, M: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 2.25 ERA
A six-run sixth highlighted this game's scoring for the Bees, which threatened to be a blowout loss. The scoring started with consecutive walks by Casey Smith to load the bases, and by Coby Smith to drive in a run. Gary Patchett then hit an RBI single that cashed in two. Nathan Haynes followed up with a bases-clearing triple that cashed in both remaining baserunners; he was 3-5 on the night.

Terry Evans went 2-4 with a strikeout; he's second on the team in slugging. Brandon Wood once again struck out three times, the second game he's done that.

2007-04-23: Tulsa 4, Arkansas 2 #
Morrissey: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-3, 1 BB
Collins: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Edens: 3.2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 7.56 ERA
Shell: 3.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Rodriguez, R: (BS, 1)(L, 0-2) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.86 ERA
Arredondo: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 2.00 ERA
Steven Shell continues to be used in a long relief role rather than starting, for the most part. This was his third game at Arkansas this year, and his first since being demoted from Salt Lake. He has allowed only one earned run so far in the minors over 14.1 IP; his six strikeouts in this game mark a season high.

Michael Collins got his first hit in nine games, a drought that's seen his average plummet to .122. He continues to play first, as Bobby Wilson has taken over the starting catcher job and Tim Duff is his understudy. This may not last long.

Arkansas led all the way through the end of the seventh; in the top of the eighth, Tulsa staged a three-run rally when Rafael Rodriguez ran out of steam. Reliever Jose Arredondo gave up a walk to Tino Sanchez and then an RBI double to Tomas Duenas. Arkansas starter Anthony Edens left the game without surrendering an earned run thanks to a fourth-inning throwing error from third baseman Freddy Sandoval that allowed Joe Gaetti to score.

2007-04-23: San Jose 4, Rancho Cucamonga 7 #
Coon: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Statia: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 K
Diaz: 4.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 8 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.42 ERA
Beck: (W, 1-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 6.35 ERA
Rancho thumped San Jose with seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings. An error by Hainley Statia in the fourth inflated the Giants' run total. Statia made up for it by driving in a pair, as did Brad Coon, who went 3-5 with a double batting leadoff. With a .358 average, he's now the hottest regular on the team. A slumping Drew Toussaint had a 2-4 day with an RBI as well.
2007-04-23: Cedar Rapids 5, Great Lakes 0 #
Mount: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Bourjos: 0-5
Pettit: 1-3, 2 BB
Trumbo: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Conger: 2-4
Phillips: 2-3, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Schoeninger: (W, 3-0), 9.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 8 K, 0 BB, 2.14 ERA
Tim Schoeninger pitched a complete game four-hitter yesterday, at one point retiring 13 consecutive batters and fanning eight, tying a career high. The offense provided him with plenty to work with, led by P.J. Phillips' 2-3 night with a walk and two RBIs. Thus armed, Schoneninger held down the Loons admirably, allowing only one baserunner even so far as second base. The win was his third consecutive, and he has won all his starts thus far.

Oddly for a power hitting prospect, Hank Conger has only a double and two home runs on the relatively young season; but as with Brandon Wood, who also had a ho-hum record in the Midwest League, we may see him break out once he hits Rancho. And of course the season's still young. He scored a pair of runs in today's game, one of them on shortstop Preston Mattingly's throwing error in the sixth.

2007-04-23: Las Vegas 3, Sacramento 4 #
Abreu: 1-5, 1 K
Garcia: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 K
Loney: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Young: 0-3, 1 BB, 3 K
Perez: 2-4
Houlton: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 2 HR, 1.99 ERA
Miller: (BS, 1), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 4 BB, 1.98 ERA
Alexander: 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 12.00 ERA
Hull: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 1.50 ERA
Gonzalez, L: (L, 0-2) (in relief), 0.2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.50 ERA
I think Jon made a mention of this Las Vegas Review-Journal piece about D.J. Houlton staying positive despite being apparently stuck at AAA Las Vegas. He had another reasonable (read: quality) start in this one, though the walks and home runs are pretty scary. Nonetheless, the 51's were in it right up through the tenth, when Tony Abreu threw away Brian Stavisky's grounder, allowing Lloyd Turner to score from second. Greg Miller earned a blown save, but Mark Alexander actually had one good out.
2007-04-23: Jacksonville 5, West Tenn 2 #
Hu, C: 0-5
Paul: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 K
Lindsey: 1-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Dunlap: 2-4, 1 BB
McDougall: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Raglani: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Cyr: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.48 ERA
Meloan: (W, 3-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 0.79 ERA
Jonathan Meloan had a fine game and got the win in relief as the Suns burned the Diamond Jaxx with a three-run top of the tenth, all driven in on John Lindsey's homer. Marshall McDougall also homered in the top of the second, a two-run shot.
2007-04-23: Inland Empire 3, Lancaster 8 #
De Jesus: 0-4, 1 BB
May: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Dewitt: 0-1
Brazoban: (L, 0-1), 1.2 IP, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 2.08 ERA
Arias, M: 5.1 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 6.62 ERA
Yhency Brazoban looks closer and closer to ready as he struck out three over an inning and two thirds, though he did allow one of the baserunners that Lancaster ultimately used to clobber Inland Empire with a six-run second.
2007-04-23: Cedar Rapids 5, Great Lakes 0 #
Mattingly: 1-3, 1 K
Bell: 1-3
Santana: 0-3, 1 K
Gardner: (L, 2-1), 4.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 2.81 ERA
Ramirez: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 3.00 ERA
Three errors in this game, two by Preston Mattingly (unbelievably, his tenth this season) and one by Josh Bell (his eighth), made for a long game for the Loons, who had to endure Tim Schoeninger's stellar performance on the mound.
