Oh, Schmidt: Kemp, Schmidt Injured In Home Opener

Matt Kemp took a hit on his shoulder making a leaping catch attempt on Jeff Baker's flyball to deep right center in the top of the fourth during today's home opener at Dodger Stadium. Kemp was taken off the field, and appears to have only a sore shoulder.

In the fifth, Jason Schmidt was injured on a play at first when Nomar misplayed a ball; Schmidt attempted to assist him, but ended up pulling his hamstring. He was bent over and rubbing his sore hammy before Stan Conte pulled him off the mound.

Update: And Juan Pierre spent a couple seconds on the floor after making a diving catch of Garrett Atkins' sinking line drive off Schmidt's replacement, Mark Hendrickson. I might consider that an improvement if it takes him out for any appreciable period of time.

Kemp will be taken to the hospital for precautionary x-rays.

Update 2: Schmidt says his hamstring is feeling better now that he's in the clubhouse.
