Scores

2007-05-12: Nashville 8, Salt Lake 9 #
Haynes: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Evans: 3-6, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Wood: 0-5, 1 K
Gorneault: 1-5, 2 K
Mathis: 1-5, 3 K
Smith, Ca: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Pavkovich: 1-1, 1 2B, 2 BB
Olenberger: 6.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 2.90 ERA
Resop: (BS, 1), 1.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 7.78 ERA
Jones: (W, 2-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 8.16 ERA
Wood hits .243 and is batting third? Explain this to me, Brian Harper. Anyway, the Bees won this one in the bottom of the 11th with an RBI single from Terry Evans. Ben Johnson DH'd and went 1-5 but had a critical role in the 11th, getting an RBI double that drove in Jose Macias.

The Bees led through seven, but Chris Resop gave up four runs, all earned, in the top of the eighth to give Nashville the lead. Terry Evans and Nathan Haynes both homered. Haynes was recently the subject of a Stephen Smith piece about his career's late resurrection. It may not be too late for the oft-injured centerfielder and 1997 first-round pick to have a real career. Just, not with the Angels.

2007-05-12: Tulsa 3, Arkansas 5 #
Rodriguez, S: 0-4, 2 K
Collins: 0-3
Fuller: 1-1, 2 BB
Green: (W, 3-2), 8.1 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 6 K, 0 BB, 4.22 ERA
Arredondo: 0.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.60 ERA
One of Green's best outings to date, this victory represents his sixth quality starts in eight tries. Green had a shutout going through eight, but gave up consecutive doubles to Christian Colonel and Christopher Frey.

The Travs took advantage of Tulsa starter Oscar Rivera walking the bases loaded in the third and then a throwing error by 3B Colonel that allowed a pair to score. Freddy Sandoval's sac fly plated the final run of the frame. Arkansas got two more in the bottom of the sixth with help from a throwing error by reliever Adam Bright that allowed Freddy Sandoval to score from third, and Greg Porter's RBI single drove home Aaron Peel. With the win, the Travs are 14-21 and trail the Texas League North division, 4.5 games behind Wichita.

2007-05-12: Rancho Cucamonga 2, Bakersfield 6 #
Toussaint: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Fish: (L, 0-1), 3.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 1 HR, 6.00 ERA
Southpaw Robert Fish made his Cal League debut last night, and it was an ugly one, surviving only three innings while giving up two runs, one a solo homer in the bottom of the third to Taylor Teagarden. Fish, a sixth-round pick in last year's draft, is a native of Fontana. Amalio Diaz, who had a brilliant stint with the Quakes last year, is repeating the level, and finding success harder to come by; he relieved Fish and got shelled for four more runs over only 2.2 IP. Drew Toussaint homered for one of the two Rancho runs, and went 2-4 in the game.
2007-05-12: Cedar Rapids 6, Clinton 12 #
Pettit: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Ortiz, W: 2-4
Sweeney: 2-5, 1 RBI
Trumbo: 0-4, 1 K
Conger: 0-4, 2 K
Perez: 2-4
Mount: 1-2, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Herndon: (L, 3-2), 5.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 11 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 4.03 ERA
Browning: 2.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 5.17 ERA
Kenneth Herndon had his worst game of the year, getting shelled for six earned runs in five innings. Reliever Sammy Leon also had his worst outing of the year, making no outs but giving up three runs, two on wild pitches to consecutive batters. Barret Browning relieved Leon, but gave up three more himself.

Ryan Mount had a solo homer as the highlight of the Kernels' scoring.

Freeman: 1-2, 2 BB
Loney: 0-0, 1 BB

Brazoban: 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 2.00 ERA
New Orleans centerfielder Ben Johnson homered off Yhency Brazoban in the top of the ninth in a game where Las Vegas otherwise led the whole way. Centerfielder Choo Freeman's two walks were his first since May 5. James Loney got an intentional walk as a pinch hitter in the sixth with two out and men on second and third.

Starter Miguel Pinango made his AAA debut in this game, and a fine one it was, too, striking out five while allowing four runs and no walks. Pinango had a 4.61 ERA in 27.1 innings with Inland Empire, walking six and striking out 21.

Troncoso: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1.17 ERA
Travis Denker's 3-5 game with a homer led the way for Inland Empire's offense, even though his blast was a solo shot. The 66ers sent ten men to the plate in the four-run sixth, and scored four again in the eighth. Despite Visalia committing four errors, only one of the 66ers' 10 runs were unearned.

Brent Leach came on in the eighth and allowed a single to Jereme Milons, but picked him off in the next at bat to make the only out of his appearance. Ramon Troncoso came in to finish the inning and the game, collecting his seventh save.

The Loons put together a three-run eighth to spoil Christopher Cody's shutout, the game-winner driven in by Carlos Santana with two out and Francisco Lizarraga at third. Jesus Rodriguez relieved Cody White for a two-inning save.

Comments:
How did the Angels end up with two resurrection stories in AAA at the very position they hastily dumped $50 mil to fill? That plus 3&2 Reggie?

Then there's .357 Pettit at Cedar Rapids and .317 Coon (18 SBs) at Rancho. Anyone need a CF?

With 135 PAs, it's well near time to start taking Haynes seriously. He's hitting .396 with a .982 OPS away from Salt Lake, so this isn't a regional aberration anymore.
