Tech: Silverlight, Silverfish — What's The Difference?

Way too much to do today, but I wanted briefly to touch on Dan Fox's latest Unfiltered post at Baseball Prospectus about MLBAM's latest sloppy wet kiss (with tongue yet, eww) with Microsoft, promising the delivery of Silverlight as their next MLB.TV delivery system. Fox enthuses, "For software architects and developers heavily invested in the Microsoft platform this is exciting since it allows development across platforms using the .NET Framework that many also use to build business applications."

For the rest of us, it's just a big fat zero, because Microsoft has no desire to make Silverlight truly cross-platform by supporting Linux, and given Redmond's history, I have to seriously question the level of support Mac users will receive. (The words "back of the bus, you" come distinctly to mind.) Dan, Dan, Dan: how could you be so credulous? "We have both kinds of music here: country and western."

More older stuff about Silverlight at Slashdot, and no, I absolutely do not believe Miguel de Icaza when he says Silverfish will be ported to Linux by the end of the year. Anybody wanna bet on how long that will last before Steve "Developers!" Balmer sics his attack lawyers at him?
