Angels Get A Gimme? Royals Sign John Thomson

I hesitate to write stuff like this, but when the Royals go out and get a guy essentially off the waiver wire — strike that, past the waiver wire, because nobody has wanted him since 2006 — you have to think the Angels have a real good shot at just clobbering the guy. The Royals have signed 33-year-old RHP John Thomson, who hasn't pitched since 2006 with the Braves. He apparently went to spring training with the Blue Jays but started the season on the DL and never made it up after nine rehab starts between single-A Dunedin and AAA Syracuse, carrying a 4-3 record and a 4.47 ERA combined. The Jays released him on June 18.

He'll make his first start with Kansas City next Tuesday, against the Angels in Anaheim. (Via BTF.)

Why are the Angels using AA (yes, not even AAA) announcers on their telecasts? I'm usually lucky enough to avoid the Mota-Gubicza borefest, but tonight I'm home and forced to endure their brand of sucking. Charles Barkley knows more about announcing than these guys know about baseball: "Bad team, man, bad F***in' team."

The way the angels hit, or better said don't hit, against pitchers they should completely mash the ball against makes me feel this guy will go 6-7 shutout innings.

After tonight's game, boscomon, you might just be right.
